The Scotiabank Centre originally opened its doors in 1978 (formerly Halifax Metro Centre) and hosted some of the region’s most memorable events, including artistic performances, major sporting events and concerts, and is also the official home of the Halifax Mooseheads.
On June 24, 2014 it was announced that Scotiabank would be investing in the future of the facility by expanding its current partnership to become the new naming rights partner. Under the partnership, Scotiabank committed to investing $650,000 per year for 10 years, with $5 million of the investment directed at capital upgrades.
The partnership will build on the venue’s decades long history with updates to areas that will continue to improve the customer experience. The key priorities for facility improvements were determined based on customer input. Renovations began in the fall of 2014 and are scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2017.
The official opening of the rebranded Scotiabank Centre was celebrated on September 19, 2014.
